Ava Summer School cleans up Vera Cruz

On June 30, 2004, summer school students from Ava Middle School cleaned up at Vera Cruz. Students of Jason Puryear and Velma Shortt, in cooperation with Mary Chipps, VISTA Community Youth Program Coordinator with Extension/4-H, picked up trash at the Missouri Department of Conservation Public Use Area, making a positive impact on the picnic areas, roads & along the banks of Hunter Creek at Vera Cruz.

The day before the field trip, the students heard an informative talk given by Tim Carr from the Missouri Department of Conservation. He told them about the area and inspired them to action on the trash problem there. Ava High School students Lyndsey Porter and Kelse Bray each volunteered during the day to help make it a safe and enjoyable outing.
