Vera Cruz


The "mill pond" at Vera Cruz is a popular local swimming hole.

Vera Cruz River Access is a beautiful public recreation area on Hunter Creek, a tributary of the Bryant. It's located six miles east of Ava on Highway 14, then three miles north on Highway AB. There are 80 acres, with a picnic area and primitive camping. Fishing and hunting are permitted in season.

 

History
  • The old village of Vera Cruz was established before the Civil War. It became the first county seat of Douglas County.
  • The Civil War Battle of Clark's Mill took place at Vera Cruz.
